Actually, that argument read as more for add-ons than the merits of the
Amiga. Oh well.
As for new Amigas, a new version of the Amiga 4000T will be available in
North America in September. This Amiga will be available in either 040 or
060 configurations, depending on what the user orders. The same company
that is producing the first Amiga 68060 card is also reported to be
working on a quad-68060-multi-processor card which will make it many
times faster than any Pentium. The basic 68060/50mhz is almost the speed
of the Pentium, and faster clockspeeds will put it toe-to-toe. The A4000T
also has, as one of many advantages over a PC, 2 video slots.
It is likely the RISC Amigas that you are referring to as being over a
year away from release. The Amiga OS will also be developed for multiple
platforms so PC users can enjoy a 'better' OS for multi-media (read
video). *8^)
Also, the Amiga technology is now under liberal licensing to 3rd party
developers, so users no longer have to rely on one company for Amigas.
There is already one company which has a RISC-based Amiga clone called
Draco, which is said to run most Amiga applications without a problem.
The Draco also puts out true colour 24bit.
Other Amiga clones (ie. laptops) are being worked on now.
